Voice and video communication.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and my friends overseas have iPhones, Galaxy Note, and Galaxy Tab.

What software/service is best to use for VOIP, and video communication with internet connections?

What software use up the least amount of data transfer and the most reliable?

I have heard of Google Talk and all of it variants (please elaborates what each of the Google service does), and Skype.

In my experience, Skype works very well cross-platform (Windows, iOS and Android), and is pretty reliable. I don't know about data transfer through. But I've played with SIP a fair bit (using Callcentric and Voip.ms as providers), and I've tried Facetime a bit, but I tend to go back to Skype because it has just worked the best for me.

I use G+ Hangouts for video. Really nice, esp. its simple handling of >2 parties.

No problems between Android and iOS.

I prefer Skype for 2-3 person communication (I've also used on iOS, Win, and Android) and G+ for larger web meetings.

another vote for hangouts - multi user hangouts are great.

another vote for skype. you pay for it, but not much. thing is, the quality is outstanding.
