Vodka snobs

vodka snobbery is ridiculous. most vodka is distilled by ADM and conagra. all assholes like puff daddy do is run it through a massive brita filter a couple times. and then sell it for $40. the fact that people pay as much for vodka as for aged spirits is mass stupidity. and if you're just mixing the heck out of it might as well get everclear and just use half as much.

if i buy vodka, i usually i buy tito's because it's local.

FWIW there was an expose on TV a few years ago. Blind tests with Vodka showed that people had no idea what they were drinking. The cheap stuff was as good as the expensive and visa-versa.

That's what I thought too so I almost never spent more than $20 for a 1.75L bottle of vodka.

However, it's incredible how good Tito's tastes. With both my wife and cousin they've asked me to mix them up a screwdriver with Tito's and I've used Svedka instead. They were both able to tell it wasn't made with Tito's.

Tito's is about $28 for a 1.75L bottle so it's nowhere near as expensive as the "top shelf" brands yet tastes a hell of a lot better. I can even drink it straight and it has a nice, mild corn aftertaste.

As well as the fact that vodkas not really supposed to have a taste, it's a neutral spirit. That's why lots of the marketing involves 'triple filtered' and other bollocks.

i always insist on Belvedere; did not like Ketel One and hated Grey Goose. but I actually like Russian Standard. (will try Tito, if I ever see on a shelf)

i think im going to get some titos for my secondary flask...i usually keep bushmills in my main one, but i keep hearing good things about titos and vodka seems like a good thing to have handy in case i want *something* mixed but dont really want to mix the whiskey

I picked up some Tito's Wednesday, not bad. If you're mixing it, then I don't see the point of getting something expensive unless anything less gives you a headache

I've recently discovered Platinum 7x vodka. (7x distilled)
Its cheap.. maybe $10, not sure, but definitely less than $15 around here.
pretty damn good. You definitely won't look like a Vodka snob with the plastic bottle, but you can spend your saved money on finer things in life.

Flask?

You need to carry two types of spirit around with you at all times? 😱

I'll have to try Tito's. Sounds interesting.

Otherwise I agree with the rest of your post. We don't drink it neat, so my wife tends to buy the big bottles (1.75 L) of Smirnoff for under $20 since it doesn't give her headaches. We've got a bottle of Grey Goose that she opened and drank some of, but unless it makes a huge difference in mixed drinks, I'd stick to the cheap stuff.

Tito's is now my vodka of choice.

Orange juice mixed with Tito's vodka is just incredible.

What's your favorite vodka?
I buy the cheapest damn vodka I can find. Last was a giant plastic bottle from Trader Joe's. AFAIK, vodka is supposed to taste like ethyl alcohol + water. What's the point in being a snob about that?

The only thing that gives me a headache is drinking something cold too fast, and that goes away in less than 10 seconds.

I have some gourmet alcoholic beverages in the house, but I don't pay a lot of attention to them, frankly. I'm more concerned about other things.
