this board is pissing me off and im not alone.

http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=354974

basically I cant complain about this board as long as i use the 03/08 BIOS. Any of the updated bios versions cause my board to make a high pitched tone that splits my wig. I just tried the 09/21 update today and it let me down same as the 07/21. chaintech is no help they told me to try clearing the CMOS lol......anyway continue to recommend this board cus its super duper.

Is this high pitched sound a loud noise? or can you only hear it when the case cover is off.

its not really loud but with a quiet case like a sonata its noticable accross the room. ah well ill get over it.....i just dont see how its the board when the one bios works fine only the updates cause this issue.

off topic but i see you have the slk3700amb ..... mine just came yesterday and i havnt played with it much but its a really nice looking case. Mine did have permanent smudges on the top of it tho...like fingerprints and some weird spots that show up in the right light and dont wipe clean. but its probably only me who got that right? :frown:

i actually had a little whiney sound with the orignal 3/08 bios but it was coming from my video card. Its not there anymore with the 9/21 bios.

Yea the amb is a great case i love it.

I am running the VNF-250 mobo also but I'm only using the 3/08 BIOS. With it I can o/c my A64 2800+ from 1.8ghz to 2.3ghz aircooled with the OEM HSF. System is 100% stable!!! I even installed WinXP Pro while at 2.3ghz.

I don't see the need to update my BIOS as I don't have any problems with the original BIOS.

Yea I guess it could be worse...Im happy the stock bios works but I wanted Cool & quiet and I have used the newer bios's and they do offer improvements.... just none worth listening to the squealing.

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...71&highlight_key=y ba stards!

Anyways, http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=354974 Looks like i'm not the only one. For me the best case scenario would be to SELL THIS PIECE OF SHIiiiiiiiT and just shellout teh extra bucks. Because for me, it's more than teh noise. It's Damaging my ears like hel l even though i dont alway shear it, i can still feel teh affects. ah well, there seems to be no fix, so i'm just gonna RMA and sell it when i get it back brand new. It really pis ses me off that chaintech is making me go through all this hassle and i definately will not buy another of their boards. I'd rather run my CPU using horsepoop. Heh, teh hel l with chaintech!

well over on pcper forums it seems they've determined the sound is coming from the motherboards "chokes". they are the things on the mobo wrapped in copper wire. Someone over there recommended hot gluing the chokes to stop them from vibrating and causing this noise. I dont think anyone has tested it yet though, as it would void the warranty. I'm also using an SB Live as I thought disabling onboard sound was worth a try. When I had onboard sound disabled and had no SB live installed the sound went away. Then I put the sb live in and after I installed the drivers for it and rebooted the sound started up again during the XP boot screen. It also goes away if I set HT to 1x but im not trying to run like that.....so I just use the stock bios which doesnt cause any noise. The noise is very very disturbing...a constant high pitched tone that drives me insane...im using a sonata and it doesnt help matters. I emailed chaintech and am still waiting for a response...hopefully I can do the same thing as neptune.

Interesting. You spelled "the" wrong 4/5 times, like it was intentional. Not a criticism, just an observation.

I don't hear any high pitched noise from my VNF3-250, at least not over my fans. I do have 1 gripe in that the BIOS options for SATA drives isn't as good/intuitive as it could be, especially on the earlier shipping BIOSes. The recent BIOS releases have been admittedly better, but still not up to par to what I'd like to see.

Other than that, it's a good, cheap, no-frills but yet wildly overclockable board, can't really fault it much.
