right now I use tightVNC for using a computer on my lan remotely, but it's too slow for any real work -- only good for admin stuff I only have to do every once in a while.

Is there any windows VNC software out there that fast enough (close to realtime) to make it feasible to do "real work" remotely?

my roommate claims there's something for OSX that has such good performance, it's indistinguishable from working locally at the box. any such thing for windows?

I use Remote Desktop Connection over the internet to my computer and it runs with pretty much zero noticeable latency... What OS are you using?

I've found that XP's Remote Desktop seems to have the least amount of latency compared to the other VNC programs.

I use UltraVNC in addition to RDC and installing the updated video hook driver made a huge difference in reducing the "delay". Now with the video driver installed, I can't tell much of a difference between RDC and VNC.

Dameware isn't exactly free, there's no way I'd pay $100 for their mini-remove tool.
