VNC on the fly?

Normally, what I do to connect to my office is to VPN into the network first, and then I VNC into my computer. Now, I would like to be able to help other people with their computers remotely, but I haven't necessarily configured their firewalls for a VPN connection, or their firewall may not support VPN connections. Forwarding isn't an option I really want to use, because of security issues or the need to access multiple computers on the same network behind the same firewall. I know there is gotoassist.com, but they are really expensive. Has anyone found any good ways to do this? Please let me know. Thanks for any help.

Being able to remote into their system without having to configure the firewall would kind of defeat the purpose of the firewall. Just talk them through opening up the port on the router, it only takes a few clicks.

If you have control of the firewall/router, you can do and undo it as needed. If not, I'd say it will be tough. You'd need a two way thing going, like messenger/remote assistance.
Some of the protocols let you bind to different ports.
For example, Ted's machine listens on port 1134 for remote control, and Ralph's listens to 1135, and so on and so forth. Then you can get them to forward it on through. If they use strong passwords, it is not too likely they'll get hacked.

Yeah, it looks like preconfiguring the firewall looks like the only option. I was just hoping that there might be a way that a user could initialize some kind of connection with me and then I might be able to work from there, but if preconfiguration nis the only way, I guess that's it.

Dont mean to butt in, but if I knew the port that RealVNC worked on and I opened that port on the router connected to the system running 'VNC server' (computer I want to control) how would I connect to it from my PC running VNC Viewer? I mean, I need to enter the IP address, so would I just enter the external address and automatically be able to access/control that machine running VNC server?

Let me get this straight. So once I forward the port and I want to connect to the vnc server I put the socket as the IP address? Such as 203.45.34.124:5900. Where 203.45.34.124 is the external IP(made up in this case) and 5900 is the port vnc uses?
Yeah this is what you should do (provided that the port was forwarded only to one computer in both the software firewall and the Router). The open port entry in the Router's Virtual Server acts as the director from the external WAN IP to the private IP of the computer computer.
