VNC Authentication Problems

Scarpozzi

Lifer
I've got VNC turned on RHEL 5 and I set a password. I had this working 3 months ago and for some reason authentication is failing. I reset the password by typing vncpasswd and by going to the remote desktop configuration in the gui and setting it there. I still get "Wrong Password" when I attempt to login.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I need to do to get it working? I've got the firewall setup for ports 5900:5904 for my vlan, so everything is set on the firewall side. It appears to be something going on with the server itself not reading the password?

I still haven't figured this out, but have been busy working on other projects. I just pushed the admin trying to access the box to the blade's DRAC for now until I can get vnc working. I prefer the DRAC over VNC, but don't want to rock the boat since not all systems have that capability.

I think the VNC preferences window that ships with most gnome based desktops will truncate your password to only 8 characters and not tell the user. The client will let you enter as many characters as you want. Did you set a password of more than 8 characters? try only using the first 8.
