vmware player

I'm using the latest version of vmware player and a virtual XP Pro installation. I was wondering how I could get files from my host desktop system to the desktop of the virtual system.

I looked around and the vmware documentation said that I needed to install vmware tools. I went ahead and did that but I still can not simply drag files into the vmware player window onto the virtual xp pro desktop. I can however, copy and paste text.

I also have an ubuntu installation and the internet connection through NAT works fine while the internet connection doesn't work in XP... must be because theres no driver installed for the ethernet in device manager

Just wondering what I'm doing wrong. I'd appreciate the help. Thanks

VMWare Tools allows me to drag and drop files between my host and guest OS. I'm using an XP host with an XP guest, however.

You can also use the command-line based VMWare Disk Mount utility to mount VMDK files as virtual drives. This is the best solution for bulk copying between host and guest, but I don't believe it works while a virtual machine is running.

Yeah all I had to do was enable drag and drop support through vmware workstation first... now drag and drop works in vmware player as well.

now I'm wondering how many of these vmware processes that I need

vmnat.exe
vmount2.exe
vmware-authd.exe
vmhetdhcp.exe

I know I need vmnat.exe because it allows the virtual machine to access the internet through NAT. I don't know about the rest though. I don't mount disks and I'm not sure what the other two do.
