LAS VEGAS (AP) - Kanye West says he'll never return to MTV.

The 29-year-old rapper, who was shut out at the Video Music Awards on Sunday night, threw a tantrum in front of media and crew backstage as the MTV show was ending.

West, waiting for an elevator in a crowded hallway, began yelling about losing all five categories for which he was nominated, including male artist of the year.

"That's two years in a row, man ... give a black man a chance," said West, stomping around his entourage and directing his comments at a reporter. "I'm trying hard man, I have the ... No. 1 record, man."

It was the latest outburst from West at an awards show. Last year, he crashed the stage at the MTV Europe Awards after not winning for best video.

West's latest album, "Graduation," is due out Tuesday. 50 Cent has said he'd stop making solo records if West's CD outsells his "Curtis" album, also set for release Tuesday, in their first week out.

The 31-year-old rapper has been riled by forecasts that sales of West's "Graduation" could rival those for his CD.

West and 50 Cent appeared together at the VMAs to present an award.

Kanye is whiney and acting like a fool but I don't see how you can call him a wannabe gangsta. He doesn't act like a thug in real life or in his songs

I'm from Houston. I was making a point. A lot of the posts in this thread are just plain racist. If he was Justin Timberlake you wouldn't see any ridiculous comments about him being a wannabe gangsta, or him killing 50 cent. That's what real racism is-- not trivial crap like "the N word".

no, if some KKK guy said all blacks should die, or that Bush doesn't care about white people, I would call him a stupid white racist. It works both ways for some people, but others try to use the "racist" card whenever possible.

not only that, but it was the timing of when it was done. He didn't just say that this past year, he said it just after Katrina hit, and he did it on a telethon when he was brought in to try to raise money for people who lost everything and really needed money. But instead of trying to help people, he had to bring politics into it and play the race card.
