It is things like this I don't like connected solutions. I want my stuff completely isolated to me in my home.

Is this just an issue with FFMPEG? If that's the case, I assume Plex will have problems too?

Don't think so.
It depends where & how the programs read subtitle information.
I think most players have now (or will be shortly) been patched though.

FFFFFFFFUCK, seriously? Subtitles? I use vsfilter for my subtitles because it can nicely pad 2.35:1 video with black bars on top/bottom to fit 16:9 screens so that subtitles are always at the bottom of the screen, wonder if it's affected.

What about something like WMC? Since MS has pretty much abandoned it, I find it unlikely they would come up with any sort of patch...

Does WMC even read idx/sub files from media directories? It certainly doesn't download them automatiaclly from a 3rd party provider.

Wait, so is it only idx/sub that are affected? What about srt files, are those safe?
I don't believe it's the files themselves that are affected but rather the storage mechanism used to download the subs from 3rd parties can contain executables that are not checked and are allowed to be extracted to paths outside the intended destination.
