VLC default settings

is there anyway i can have it so by default it opens up at a specified size.

Im using a 1280x720 screen right now and its a pain to always have to drag the window shut to search through my movie files. If the movies opened at 50% their size it wouldnt be a problem. Also is there a way to turn subtitles off by default?

Ctrl + 1 = 1:4 zoom
Ctrl + 2 = 1:2 zoom
Ctrl + 3 = 1:1 zoom
Ctrl + 4 = 2:1 zoom
