VLC Alternative?

I love VLC but its not the most efficient player for x264, anyone know of a player that uses standard codecs (coreavc or ffdshow for example) but allows you to play incomplete video files?

I haven't found anything as good as VLC yet. I tried MP Classic w/ FFDshow, but I found that the interface was terrible, and certain settings messed things up big time. It added a bit of sharpness, but really there's only so much you can do with 480P material before it looks just strange.

I'm not sure what you could use to play the incomplete files.

Anyhow, I've also tried ZoomPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, WMP, and Windows Media Center, and VLC is still the best.

I downloaded a "daily build" of version 9 recently so that I could play my new H.264 files w/ AC3 audio. It's pretty cool. With HandBrake, I can get a flawless DVD backup w/ AC3 audio at just over 1GB per film.

kmplayer did the trick can use directshow filters and play incomplete avis (streamed from nzbplayer) hell this thing in high performance mode with Core only uses about 45-60% of the cpu, where VLC would peg at 100 and drop frames like mad. thanks for the suggestion model.
