Jones turned down Chael on short notice - Somewhat inaccurate b/c Jones was already in fight shape preparing for a fight

Machida then turns down Jones with 1 month notice - Somewhat understandable b/c if you lose the champ 2x you aren't getting a third shot. With Jones being young it basically means Machida would have to drop to MW and wait for Anderson to retire since he said he won't fight Anderson

Shogun turned down Jones with 1 month notice - Somewhat understandable as well. He didn't look great vs Vera and was/is recovering. He's in the same boat as Machida regarding losing twice to the champ.

Vitor - Kind of out of left field, but he used to fight at LHW, he's not getting a MW shot soon as it's kind of a mess and Anderson doesn't fight a lot.

BTW - IS there actually some consipiracy on Chael throwing the fight to Anderson? Chael pulled a stupid move and fell on his ass. Then he sat there like...oh crap now what? And did the worst possible thing he could have done, sit up against the fence. He left himself nowhere to go. He should have either laid on his back with an open guard inviting Anderson on the ground and/or butt scooted away until he was a safe distance to stand. I don't believe Anderson would have dived into the guard of Chael anway...not b/c he's cared of Chael's ground game but b/c Anderson's standup is literally 20x better than Chael's.

Who else were they going to use? They already tried anyone else in the weight class close to sniffing a title shot. Vitor is a much more dangerous fight anyways. Granted his only chance happens in the first round, but with his speed and power, all it takes is one flurry and he can end anyone's night.

Regarding the ability to veto a fight, that's probably a grey area of a contract when it comes to injury replacements. I still don't get why not accept the easier fight, put in a auto rematch clause, ask for more money and be done with it.

You really should listen to the audio conference call that Dana had - it explains everything.

Jones turned it down based on Jackson's recommendation that it would be the "biggest mistake of his career."

Dana is rightfully pissed at Jones and Jackson.

The same could be said of Vitor. So... If not Hendo, Lyoto, Chael, Vitor... Then who??? Shogun said he wasn't ready, Rashad just lost to Bones. Rampage also lost to Bones and is done with the UFC (allegedly.) I guess Ryan Bader is next?

Chael presents the most intriguing matchup of the viable candidates.

sadly this is it.

people want to see chael fight. he is one of the few men that can take it to someone like Anderson. he has no fear and can make you excited about any fight he is in.

I don't want to see JBJ against most of that list except for Hendo. hmm the real fight i want is JBJ vs Anderson.

I would prefer to see him test the HW waters. Fighting smaller guys will prove nothing, if he completely cleans out LHW. I do not think Anderson proves much fighting GSP either. Victories by Jon or Anderson just re-enforces that there are weight classes for a reason. If the smaller guys win, they benefit greatly though. Win-Win for the smaller guy in the fights. And I hope no one is going to play the walking around weight card, for obvious reasons. Jon v. Kongo would be epic IMO. Jon could probably come in at 230- 235 and Kongo only gives up a little reach.

Ahh, my bad.

He certainly is not articulate enough for broadcasting, and he has a fairly lavish lifestyle. Bellator would probably pay him well; he is a big name. And I could see him holding the belt there. My other question, is if Chuck has anything to say about things, once QJ's contract is done. He ain't exactly a fan.

yeah i laugh when Anderson called out a injured GSP. What the fuck? what is that going to prove? its a win-win for gps though. IF anderson wants to prove he is the best fighter ever call out jones.

I think JBJ eventually is going to move up a class. he is young and i think he is going to fill out more. maybe put some meat on those legs..

My guess is Anderson is preparing for retirement. So feathering the nest is his primary goal. He and GSP are also the longest reigning champs with the most title defenses. And the convo over which is more deserving of the PFP title has involved them for years. He could squash everything at once, and get a hell of a payday.

That's for sure but I still like him, he's a character.

But I really didn't like how he uses "Look what happened to Tyson when he got rich", thing when he tries to justify not paying fighters very well. Another good one was when he compared the kid that hacked UFC.com to terrorists.

But the sport wouldn't be what it is without him. The Ultimate Fighter reality show was a great move.

also surprised Dana didnt try to get a small hw to move down to lhw to fight

Jones said no to ANYONE (rather he said he wouldn't accept anyone) on the short notice (151 card). As stated a few LHW's were offered to fight at 152, but declined. So the UFC kept digging. Chael was only a fix to keep the 151 card going.

Sonnen is arguably a better mma fighter at this point than Hendo or Belfort. But fighting Belfort or Hendo is much more dangerous to Jon for retaining his title. Sonnen could possibly lay and pray Jones for 5 rounds but it's not likely at all. With Belfort or Hendo it's one wrong step or head movement and it's lights out.

Unless he puts on a lot of weight first either one of these guys smashes Jones, I don't see his wrestling over powering either fighter to take them down (again the sheer weight and for JDS, take down defense advantage). They are both better on the feet than Jon.

This whole fiasco lowers Ufc's ability to headline Jones if his policy is not to take a fighter on short notice. There's a history of improvising when pre-event injuries occur, and it's part of the sport and the ufc promotion model so that a scheduled show can go on.

Yet Jones has to bring his myopic asinine pussified 'business' perspective into the mix and kill ufc 151 and possibly put future ufc events at risk when he's headlining. He might turn out to be more trouble than he's worth to the ufc, which has already been depreciating with his dui and general d!ckhead attitude. If he does this again, he should automatically lose the belt.
