Is it just me, or are all these sedan/coupes starting to look the same? TopSpeed released a mockup of what they think the 2015 Mustang will look like based off spy shots:

What happened to stuff like this and this and this?

Yeah, it looks like its heading towards blandville. Is Chrysler the only company making uniquely styled cars these days?

Don't forget the Kia Cadenza:

I'm glad I got the 2012. As much as I like newer sleek designs on sports cars, I like the more classic muscle car look of the 5th gen Mustangs, especially 2010-2014.

Well, they've said before this gen won't be retro styled. Its about time anyway. However, these images are all just people using Photoshop.

Aerodynamics.

Traditionally shaped headlights are aerodynamic abominations. With increasing pressure on fuel consumption from governmetns and rising oil prices, manufacturers are being pushed into more aerodynamic body shapes; while still retaining conventional looks (i.e. stuff like wheel skirts, etc. are not desired because they look unconventional).

The result is that all the manufacturers are increasingly pushed towards the same fundamental design.

It doesn't make that much difference. For their RAM trucks, Dodge compared headlights that were sloped forward and ones that were sloped back, and found virtually no difference. The Mustang's current shape headlights direct air to the sides

Truck...car....Ram.....Mustang.

Orange....Apple.

You could throw a BMW 3/5 series and Audi 3,4,5,6,7 and 8 into that comparison and they would blend in also.

Oops, I should have said they tested the whole fascia tilted both ways. So while you can say that the truck has other huge drag factors like the rear axle and the bed, the giant grill is a huge part of total drag. When the grill and headlights are tilted forward, it directs air to the sides instead of up over the hood. Even though it looks more draggy, it doesn't seem to be much worse
