I used isquint a lot. I'm sad to see it go. Too bad it's not open source.

Handbrake's next version 0.93 is supposed to add support for encoding of already encoded files (not just DVDs), so that could be an alternative as long as they keep maintaining that software.

Handbrake is GPL, so even if they give up, someone else can pick up the torch.

that's good to hear if true. However, I have problems w/ handbrake and trying to get it to encode so our ps3 can play them. i haven't had much success. works better for xbox.
