For those who received their copy from the latest MS marketing blitz at college campuses, does the VS.NET software require
product activation like XP?

I've installed it on a Professor's computer and it didn't require activation, but he might have had a special copy (our Office and Windows disks don't even require a product key to install). I'm currently deciding between getting Borland C++ Builder and Visual Studio .NET (educational versions). If you haven't found out for sure by then (probably ~1 week so you'll probably find out before then) then I will post an update.

If I am not mistaken, all MS Academic Software requires activation nowadays (Office 2k Sure did, at least it made you register before using it). .NET from MSDN's site does not, and neither did the .NET pro CD that we have. I am pretty sure that it is not corporate (dont think corporate versions of software is on thier site). And if that is where you are getting it....clicking on the FULL INSTALL link makes it a nice, compact !!1.4 GIGS!! of a download :p
