I'm considering buying it, but a question first. It sells on Amazon for >1000$, which is obviously too expensive for me. However, on a student-software website, it goes for 85$. I find it hard to believe it's the same product. Do you think it'll add some annoying popup to everyone of my programs or hack the titlebar to say it's an educational version?

It's the same exact program except it's a student version which you are supposed to stop using once you are no longer a student.

Isn't there a stipulation in Academic versions of Microsoft products that you can't use it to make a profit?

What improvements have been made to the 2003 version? I was wondering if it was worth buying the new student version since I already have the Launch event version.

Yes, I thought I read something like that although I don't remember if it was from the actual license or someone reporting it. In any case, I would like to get the retail version of VS .NET 2003 (even though I am eligible to get it at the academic price) just in case I would like to use it to create it a commercial product.

If you're talking about the Launch edition for 2003, it is 2003. Nothing different. Unless you're talking about the launch version from when VS Studio 6 came out years ago.
