That screenshot does look strangely terrible in terms of UI / colors. Had to chuckle at all of the comments in the blog post responding in caps because of all the collapsed windows being that way.

The thing that jumps out at me as being ugly are the big links to solution explorer, et al, positioned in the borders. Man, my screen space is at a premium, even though I have two 24" monitors. Don't take it up with big stupid link/tabs that look all Windows 8 tablety or something. Hopefully that crap is configurable.

That looks hideous and a complete step back from the direction they've taken of making the UI look nice. I thought VS2010 was a great improvement. Why remove the colors and make it look bland?

They claim it's to make the UI "less distracting", even though you no longer will be able to find an icon by its color ( :( and :| )

What puzzles me is everything is in Caps. And the gray color makes me think of Windows 9x. What made 2010 great was the fact that there was MORE color, which made everything easier. Now, they took it all way. Big step backward in my opinion. Although it will go great alongside Windows 8 ;)

I find intellisense to be by far the most distracting UI feature they have. First thing I did when I installed VS was figure out how to disable it.

Wow, the VS team has always seemed to have their own UI guidelines that aren't in line with MS or anyone else in the world but that just seems ugly for ugliness' sake.

UI should really be secondary for VS as opposed to any other app they make. Programmers typically prefer function over form, they could care less if their tools are ugly, they just want them to work effectivly.

And making everything grey-scale is more effective than colored icons?

God, that's terrible.

The first problem with that image is that it is on a resolution no developer in his right mind would develop in.

I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt and imagine the usefulness if it were on a huge screen like most devs have... ok sure, the code you are working on is the only thing colored... but all the other sections blend together in a bad way. Still not really seeing the net gain they are going for.

Uggg its going Metro as well. Who in the world at Microsoft ordered that idea?

And at first I thought the screenshot was purposely greyscaled or something. I can't believe that is actually how the ui currently looks....

Whats wrong with using visual basic for ip tracking :p:D

Nothing. But when you try to use a Graphical User Interface Interface...Then we have a problem.
