Visual C++ Runtime Error Problem

I get the following message after about a minute while playing CounterStrike in Win XP Professional:

"Runtime Error
C:/.......cstrike.exe
Abnormal Program Error"

OK

"The instruction at '0x0b4614a4' referenced memory at '0x00000027'. THe memory could not be 'read'. Click OK to terminate program.

OK

(Back to Desktop)

First off, here are my specs:

PIII 650 @ 650
Asus CUV-4X
256 PC133 SDRAM
PNY GF4 ti4200 128 8x, Driver Version 52.16
(the one off the hot deals thread, mispackaged 64mb, packed with 128 8x clocked at the 64mb speeds)
blah, blah blah.

The problem seems to be with open gl and windows xp, because the game works in open gl on win 2k. While i'm playing, the screen will flicker every now and then, ultimately freezing with an audio wave repeating it self like a broken record. I tried looking up the error code on google and found a guy with the same issue, but no resolve.

I thought it was a power issue, but counted that one out since it works in win 2k.

Another strange thing is that when i play tiger woods 2003, there's the flicker, but apparently its not bad enough to freeze the computer up. I don't know.

Here's what I've done to trouble shoot:
Installed VIA Hyperion 4-1 Driver, no dice
Tried different nvidia driver's from the past, no dice
Reformatted and prayed, that too did not work,
Changed DXDiag settings, no avail, so i changed them back
and that's about it, i can't think of anything else.

Please help, I'm getting frustrated, its been going on for the past year, and i'm finally reaching out.

Thanks Everyone!

Is the game patched to its latest version? Do you have the latest BIOS for your system?

Also try an older nVidia driver version; one of the the 4xxx drivers might help.

BTW, what does this have to do with Visual C++?

I've got the latest bios, and the game is patched to the latest version,.

Do you have any specific dirver that might work?

I have no idea what it has to do with C++, but that's what the error message reported, so who knows. Does the message regarding the memory (memory could not be read) imply that the memory is bad or not working?
