Sometimes, at work, I feel like installing a different OS, so I could be more productive... but I know it would set off all the bells n' whistles in IT. So, I continue to use the sanctioned XP OS that comes on our machines.
Gawd, how I hate Citrix under XP! It's... sooo productive... not!
In these "uncertain times" they recently dumped Lotus Notes at my workplace, because it cost money, in favor of Outlook 2003. OMG!!! More lost productivity... even though they saved 10's of 1000's in real live cash!
LoL! Speaking of money, do you know how much money 'we' could save by printing hard copy on both sides of the sheet? I don't, but I'll bet it would eclipse lost productivity (whatever that means) by billions!
Not to mention removing those automatic flushing devices in the restrooms... think of all the polar bears we would rescue by saving that which others throw away. Um...and polar bears are worth what??? Another intangible...
I dunno, this whole lost productivity thing seems like a vapid argument...
Going to the casino and not hitting the 777 Jackpot every time you pull the lever. Hell, gamblers have lost trillions in productivity, if you wanna look at it that way, you know?
How about pro golfers??? The winner gets (let's say) a million bucks - the losers get zip! There's got to be 100 million dollars in lost productivity in ever pro golf event, at a bare minimum!
EDIT: I was just thinking...
Here's an odd one for you!
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my P4EE machine. It boots hideously fast - probably 20-25 seconds - dittos for shutdown; unbelievably fast.
The same applies to FreeBSD 7.2 (Gnome) to a lesser degree, but it still runs circles around Windows XP/Vista/7 in 'productivity'. It's free and indestructible!
The thing is - and I *think* it's a Gnome thing - they've added a 60 second timer to the shutdown sequence, e.g. if you don't click through it, shutdown is delayed by 60 seconds.
What's THAT all about??? Free choice, maybe...
