Someone PLEASE help.

How can I get "Cut, Copy, Paste, and Delete" buttons in my folders??

I really miss them from my XP install.
I hate having to right click to get to delete!

Thanks -Jim

Isn't there an 'Organize' button on your toolbar?

Plus keyboard shortcuts still work: Ctrl+C; Ctrl+V; Ctrl+X; Del; etc.

Even faster than clicking buttons.

Yes, but I want cut, copy, paste, delete IN my toolbar...

AFAIK they are now in the organize button and the toolbar isnt customizeable (sorry...)

Well, thanks for the help guys 🙂.

Those that like keyboard shortcuts...keep using them by all means.

Thanks again.

All good points - but what's wrong with doing it the old fashioned XP way? (Right clicking!)

That way the hand never leaves the mouse. 🙂

Personal preference, people used to doing it one way don't like be forced to do it another...

OP-
"How can I get "Cut, Copy, Paste, and Delete" buttons in my folders?? "
I miss that feature myself, too.
Why MS took it away????

If someone finds out how, please LMK.

Remember what Smilin said: (paraphrased) "It's not Vista that's broken, It's the user".

Don't like the new UI? Adapt or die.

Smilin isn't participating in this thread, please stop trolling. If you disagree with Smilin's statement (which you've purposely horribly paraphrased) take it up with him in THAT thread.

The quick way to get the old file, edit, view, etc in vista explorer is to hit the alt button.
It toggles viewing it.

Right click works perfectly. Anything else is an unecessary layer. 🙂

Horribly paraphrased, you think? I went back and found the thread, and it is actually an EXACT quote, except I added the comma in the middle.

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=34&threadid=2061129
"I see a lot of gripes about Vista from people who just want it to look like XP. In this example it's not Vista that's broken it's the user. The user is clinging to a 5 year old OS."

I thought that it was also an appropriate response to the OP, as it was dealing with the same subject/context.

Ok, so you are taking me completely out of context then trying to twist my words into some other thread.

And what's with the dropdown list in the File Save dialog boxes from IE? Instead of clicking on it and getting a nice hierarchial view of directories like in XP, I get a last-used history list of locations. That's bogus UI as far as I'm concerned.

To *briefly* recap my response in the other thread.
1. The heirarchial view is still available.
2. It is a favorites view displayed, not history.
2. You are still using the UI like XP and have failed to leverage your favorites in explorer.
3. The File menu is the long slow way to do this as it is hidden by default. Use the page menu instead.

LARRY,

You are also singling me out by name when it is completely unnecessary. When I am forced to come over into some thread where I have not chosen to participate just to defend myself I consider it harrassment.

Let me quote one more thing for you and then I'm done here.
No trolling, flaming or personally attacking members. Deftly attacking ideas and backing up arguments with facts is acceptable and encouraged. Attacking other members personally and purposefully causing trouble with no motive other than to upset the crowd is not allowed.

If you wish to have factual debate, please resume in the other thread. I am not going to stand here and continue to defend myself from this tripe.

Thank you.

Then when you actually use it it toggles back.

To stop it from going away hit Alt, then Tools Options, then click box for keep Menu options

It stinks that this is not there by default as was always in the past but at least can still get it back.

Thanks Mingo

I'm not sure how this answers the OP question. He wanted the cut/copy/delete toobar items not a menu. The organize button is a menu and includes those. The alt key just shows the old traditoinal windows menu (hidden by default since so few users actually use it, the screen real-estate was better used showing more actual content).

I don't know where you get your information but every person I have ever run into that uses a computer both in the past and now uses those fuctions from the menu on a daily basis.

Sometimes "traditions" should not be broken.

Dave, the data is from usability testing (ours, MS's, others). What's your source, anecdotes?
