Vista x64 won't boot when I install the Nvidia 64-bit drivers

So I know I'm downloading the correct version of the driver, but after I install it and reboot, I just get a 'No Input' black screen after the loading bar. What is really strange is that it worked perfectly for about a month before doing this. Now this one is a fresh install and is doing it. Please help! Should I try some non-official drivers?

I'm about to use drive cleaner pro as I type, also I'm doing this from safe mode because it's all I can do. Thanks!

Sounds like maybe the video driver is forcing the video card into a resolution/refresh rate your monitor can't handle?? (maybe??)

Sorry can't be more of a help.. running a 2900XT here in Vista 64-bit and haven't had any problems

Run Drivercleaner from safemode, reboot and if you can get into the OS install from there and let us know what happens. With the Nv display driver removed it should boot into windows using the default vista display driver.

Sounds like the exact same problem I am experiencing with my Viewsonic VX2025wm. I have had the problem in Vista64 in every driver revision that came after 100.65. If I rollback to 100.65 she works just fine - after that, the DVI quits working right in the middle of the lloading bar.

I am guessing that you have the monitor hooked up with a DVI connection right? If so, use an analog monitor connection, with a analog-dvi converter if need be, and see if it boots.

Sylvanas - Yes I have uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and am currently using the Standard VGA driver to use the regular Vista environment. The strange thing is Driver Cleaner just hangs up while attempting to clean. Details show 3 files deleted (Hkey, folder dir, something else), and then I eventually just have to exit it out. I uninstall through device manager and add/remove though.

adairusmc- I am going to download 100.65 and get back. Also I have two DVI ports and don't know if I have a DVI adapter for the vga, I'm checking though.

Your video card should have came with at least one VGA-DVI converter, in case you had an older monitor with the 15 pin d-sub.

If your monitor can do both DVI and VGA (most LCD's nowadays do), and you can find a VGA-DVI converter, then try that with the latest drivers. I am doing that now and I do not have any problems, though I do have a new monitor coming Monday that will hopefully work with just the DVI.

I had this problem with my monitor (Acer AL2216W) for a while after 100.65 drivers as well, I found a simple solution. All I had to do was power down the PC, completely disconnect the monitor from the video card and it's power source for about 10 minutes. Plugged it all back in again and it worked.

Some more background on before/after would help. What else did you change besides your OS? If Driver Cleaner isn't finishing, it sounds like it could be a problem that's not fully driver/video card related. Did you upgrade to 4GB with your move to Vista 64? Details like this are important. When I upgraded to 4GB, my system was sluggish booting into Vista (like 20x longer) and I couldn't run into any apps/games without stuttering/crashes. Simply updating the BIOS resolved those problems. You can also try using the other DVI port. I know its odd, but that fixed a similar black screen problem I was having for a while.

Lite-on IDE DVD (Sata won't work)

I've always had 2Gbs, but want to upgrade to 4 as soon as I get stable


UPDATE: It appears I have fixed the problem (hopfeully). I followed Cutthroats advice, PLUS installed the new (uncertified) 163.11 Forceware drivers, and it booted into Windows. I had to do a hard reset though because it hung up during restart.

Oh yeah, and installed the beta performance and reliability pack.
