Is there anyway to prevent the display from turning off while watching a movie in windows media player? I prefer to have it turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity, but it seems watching a movie in full screen is considered inactivity.
Reguardless of what player you use your going to get the screen saver when the system has been inactive for the preset time. Move playback is inactive time because the mouse hasn't move and no keys have been pressed. The OS itself controls this not the movie players. You just have to turn off your screen save when you want to watch a movie. As long as you are not using a CRT then the screen save does nothing more then help conserve power. It use to be need to prevent burn in on CRTs.
You don't have to disable the screensaver when watching a movie. I know for a fact because I watched several last night using KMPlayer and Netflix, and in neither case did I disable my screensaver (which comes on after 5 minutes).
There's another option. I found this out by having the same thing done on my HP with Vista 64: just hit the space bar every now and then. It's annoying, sure, but it keeps; you from having to make other adjustments, which might be more trouble.
