vista won't recognize dvd+r dl or cd-r

mobo: asus p5w dh deluxe
dvd drive: pioneer dvr-112d (fw: official 1.21)
os: vista ultimate 32bit


My dvd drive will read all types of disks and burn dvd-r. But when I put verbatim dvd+r dl and cd-r into the drive, it will keep spinning and making a scanning noise every 5 seconds. Eventually the light on the drive will turn off and the drive will stop trying to read the disk. The disks are not recognized in vista.

I rma'd the first drive but the replacement has the same problem. I tried the drive in a different computer running xp and dvd+r dl disks were recognized and burnable.

My drive is connected to ich7r primary ide along with a raid set. In BIOS under IDE config, sata is configured as raid.

Anyone heard of this problem?

All my DVD's i burned in XP that were data dvd's(not video or anything, just files) no longer read in Vista. Some of them I think was because of the option to "close" the cd so writing wasn't an option again. If I did this, the DVD would read, and if I didn't, it wouldn't read(in Vista anyways).

I will burn some DVD"s when I get home this evening and check this out, as when I thought of it I didn't go over it myself. I will burn a DVD in Vista(a burned DVD, and a data DVD), and close each one. Then I will do the same without closing, and put them in Vista and see what happens.

I'm pretty sure it is not a firmware problem. The first drive was a hacked v1.15 that did not work. The new one is official 1.21 that doesn't work. Also the drive worked fine in a different computer running xp. I'm thinking it has something to do with ICH7R and my current config or vista.
