I had a full vista ultimate setup running on an ABIT il9 pro mother board (945P) chipset. sata and everything. Now what I would like to know is if i took out my primary hdd (boot drive with vista installed) and placed it into a new computer with the Gigabyte-p965-ds3 that is P965 chipset with a different south bridge for sata would I have to completely reinstall vista or could i start it up normally and just reinstall the new motherboard drivers and features without changing any of my programs or setting in vista?

Dude you dont know what you are talking about, Im on it right now and it works fine...no reinstall required. Except for one thing and that was my raid card controller. Which was onboard with a different board.

Bit of a harsh reply there. Shawn was perhaps just trying to say it's safer to reinstall so that everything is detected properly from fresh. Whilst there are tricks to get around it by deleting certain registry keys etc to force Windows to re-detect your hardware, there are no guarantees that it works 100% as it's fraught with problems if you miss something out.
