Vista Windows Mail

With Vista's Windows Mail, when you want to backup your contacts then import them later back into Windows Mail, is there a preferred format to use for importing them back in?

I wasn't sure if I should use in this situation CSV, or vCard?

Depends on what your exporting them to

If the destination pc only accepts csv, then use that
On vista the contacts are just files, so if they're going to another vista pc (or you just want to back them up), you can simply copy them from the contacts folder

I said in the post I'm just backing up for Windows Mail...

I want to back up the contacts and messages and later import them back...

Well if Vista contacts are just simple files then I don't understand why the Export option for them is listed only as CSV or vCards?

That is what I'm asking if you are going to Export Vista contacts to later import them back into Windows Mail at a later time or to another box what method should you use?

sounds like you are getting ready for a fresh install.

here's what i do, change the default 'Store Folder' location to your documents or any area thats not hidden, a copy and paste to another area as needed insures you have a backup.

the store folder location is at 'Options - Advanced - Maintenance'.

when importing from that folder delete the default folders of Windows Mail before importing.

I got it, I exported the messages, copied the contacts, then later imported the messages, of course had to move them back to the original folders and delete the Imported Folders when done, really STUPID MS didn't figure this one out and have it work like Outllook...

Then just copied the contacts back.

Nope not a fresh install, just going on a new box...
