Vista upgrade

I'm thinking about upgrading to Windows Vista for xp sp2 now so would it be a good idea. Would my system be able to run it smoothly (see my specs at bottom). Also, with Vista when I change my mobo do I need to reinstall Vista.

Would gaming performance be stable.

to answer your question and not be a dickhead, you can upgrade to vista fine and run well with what you have on your system, secondly if you change out your mobo all you will have to do probably is reactivate it again...vista is funny about changing stuff and making you reactivate it every time you change something small but that is no worries its really not that big of a deal. as far as gaming on vista i have been using it for quite some time and havent had any problems with running games on vista.

I can understand what hes asking just find. Wheres the problem? Anyway I love Vista and it is awesome for basic use but after getting a 7900GT I went back to XP SP2 because I read most all games have a 10-15% performance loss in Vista.

Your system should run it nice and smooth.

A "dickhead" is a person who asks for help but doesn't have the courtesy to make his requests easy to read. As for tylerw13, I would point out that obsessive preoccupation with sex-related name calling may be indicative of other...problems... As for the OP's questions, upgrading Vista is very, very time-consuming. A typical clean installation took me about 20 minutes while an upgrade took me upwards of three hours on the same hardware. You see, Vista has a different user folder structure, so the upgrade process requires moving large amounts of data around, not to mention scanning for programs that are incompatible with Vista and could cause crashes--old virus scanners, disk partitioners, etc.

If you are trying to upgrade from a 32-bit OS to a 64-bit OS, you *must* do a clean installation. There is no upgrade option in this case.

If you can backup your data to a separate drive, a clean install is generally preferrable. Note that my upgrade (i.e. 32-bit XP to 32-bit Vista) did work fine, but I had to do a clean install later because I wanted to switch to 64-bit Vista.

If you cant understand the question, I would suggest taking some sort of low level reading class similar to what is taught in 3rd and 4th grade. Maybe Pheonix Online has something.

At any rate Vista was a very painless upgrade for me. I did a dual boot on a second partition and it works out great. It only took 20-30 minutes I believe.
I'm not sure the exact performance hit on Vista for gaming but you can just boot to XP and game to your hearts content if your worried about it.

I would personally wait until Vista SP1. By then Barcelona will be around and core 2 quad for $266, not to mention a much improved Vista experience.

Don't spend money on the full version, either. The upgrade versions can do full installs just fine. You just need to trick it.

Look it up, the full install with an upgrade license trick.

Maybe you can understand him because of your poor grammar as well (ex:"fine" vs "find" and a run on sentence.).

To the OP, I do ask that you try to clean up your posts a bit (add some commas and question marks to signify a question). I found it difficult to read.

BUT, to answer your question: Your system will be great for Vista. It should run very well, but don't expect gaming to be quite as fast or stable as it is on XP. Considering your computer, though, you probably wouldn't notice any difference.

The only thing you'd really be missing out on gaming wise (for now) with Vista is Halo 2. And that's not much.

If you want it, go ahead and you'll be fine.
