Vista update question

KB24

Member
When I do my Vista updates it's telling me that my system utilities need to be updated and go to the manufactures website (in this case being HP) . Has this happened with anyone ? Does Vista check your manufactures website for updates ; for drivers ; bios's, etc ?

Thank You In advance ;

Vista will not check for the updates for you. That is your job. All Vista does is
remind you to check and do the updates as in some cases, it will not be able
to install or run properly without the latest updates ... particularly the BIOS,
VIDEO and NIC Card Drivers would be the most important

Vista flawlessly upgraded my Gigabyte 965P's audio, and also keeps my video up to date too (until I switched to drivers straight from nVidia.com.)

In that case perhaps I was mistaken as to what Vista can / can't do.
I personally do not want an OS to update other software / drivers
without at least giving me the choice of wether or not I need / want
the update in question. There have been too many instances of
Windows Driver Updates that do not work or cause trouble. Microsoft
should only offer updates for it's Own Software and not Hardware

That's what it does. It only updates in-box drivers.

Yep, and those drivers are provided bye the hardware manufacturer. MS just sends them through the WHQL. Also you get a choice every time. Driver updates are never marked as mandatory or automatic.
