Vista Ultimate 32bit- Wont detect X-fi?

Why do i keep getting an error message saying that Creative software cant detect a product and that installation of my X-Fi software has to stop? I got the right driver from the site for the right OS, but it isnt working, and windows doesnt seem to be detecting it either.

Try a different PCI slot.

On a P5b Deluxe with a 7900GTX prevents me from being able to do this. it was working 20minutes ago on XP before i installed Vista.

I realize that you said Vista wasn't detecting it, but it listed in the device manager with a bang?

Vista upgrade over XP, dual boot, or clean install? I'd reseat the card.

Fresh clean install. Yea i will try that in the morning. Think i will hit the sack now. Hope it works.

If it isn't even showing up in device manager, I bet it isn't seated properly, or the slot or card is defective.

Have you used this card before?

My X-Fi is working fine in Vista.

Apparently X-Fi doesn't work with Vista.

If this is the case, I'm sorry. 🙁

Bah, I have an X-Fi Xtreme music, and so do several of my customers, and it works like a champ in Vista.

First off thanks for the responses. I know for a fact that the card will work with Vista, so I'm sure that this isnt my problem. I will reseat the card when i get home and see if that works.

EDIT: Just reseated the card and it still wont show up, and Creative drivers wont install because the card isnt being detected.

So if i go to device manager, it says that the card has no dirvers, i clicked to automatically install drivers. Vista did and now i have sound. But i cant get the Creative drivers to work so i have none of the features that i really want/need. I installed the drivers from the CD that came with the Card, but they dont work right. So im not sure what to do. I try to download the drivers off creative site but they never work, does someone want to send me theirs?

I have nearly the same problem: My Vista will not find my X-FI half the time. Fortunately for me, it's a set pattern, so I can get it to find it every time (this will make sense soon).

If I do a cold boot, Vista will find the X-FI EVERY time.

If I RESTART, it will fail to find the card EVERY time.

Why does this happen? I have no idea, but whenever i need to "restart", I just shut down. Magically, everything works after that.

There aren't any vista drivers on the cd. You have to dl them from creative and the nonbeta release works great except for it not having the creative console.

Thanks for the heads up. I shut down totally, reseated the card and reinstalled drivers and now it seems to be working. So something, or a combination of somethings helped it to work. thanks everyone

i found the solution. i think it's the wrong driver we download, i got the x-fi xtreme audio driver for vista, then the driver said can't find the sound card. so i look more around the creative website, i found out that AUDIO model is not same as xtrememusic, all x-fi sound card uses the same driver except the AUDIO one.

so the correct driver solved the problem <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?searchString=SBXF_PCDVT_LB_2_13_0012.exe">Link to right driver download page
</a> title said it's for xtrememusic too.
