vista to xp...

My friend hated vista so he went back to xp... he has xp media center. He had xp pro before and it was working fine. To uninstall vista he did something in bios like setting the boot priority to cd rom and disabling the rest. He installed media center and now its messed up. I think some remnants of the 2 other os's are still on the hard drive. He installed the drivers from his mobo but the ethernet driver wont work so he doesnt have access to the internet. should he... 1. Buy xp pro again because media center sucks? 2. Use a program (if so what) to wipe his hdd? 3. other? His specs are... asus p5nsli, e6300, seagate 7200.10 hdd... the hardware isnt the problem tho because its all worked before with vista and xp pro

Do it again, this time format the HD, not installing over Vista.

Also be sure to tell him to do a full format, not a quick one.

You only need to do a full if you think there is a problem with the hard drive. I do quick formats 99% of the time and I have never had an issue.

s1rwilliam, boot to the XP disc. If you need to install SATA or Raid drivers hit F6, if not hit enter when setup stops, F8, ESC, then you have the option to delete partitions, go ahead and delete all of them (assuming you backed up any relevant data), create a new one, then do a quick format.

XP MCE is XP Pro with MC enhancements.
