Vista SP2

I've got two new hard drives coming in today and I've decided to wait to install them until Vista Service Pack 2 is released and I get Vista installed and immediately updated to SP2. I was thinking about my options and decided I'd hook them up, install Vista gold and then update it to SP1 and wait for SP2's release.

Then I thought of the possibility of SP2 having a delta package available, allowing me to go straight from gold to SP2 in one update. If that's the case, I should probably hold off and wait for that. I'm just trying to keep my initial install as clean as possible.

I'm also going to look into using vLite to slipstream either package into one install disc. I haven't done this since my XP days and I understand the process is different but possible with Vista.

What does everyone think? Has there been any information on a delta release for SP2?

Yes, it will be available but you would need to order it from Microsoft. Sort of like when SP1 came out and people "traded in" their initial release disc for one with SP1 already in.

Or if you know someone with a MSDN license, they can get it for you.

Hmmm. I think I'd just download the installers instead of paying shipping. Oh well!

You should be able to make a Vista SP2 install CD by slipstreaming the service pack. vLite is free software that makes it easy to slipstream Vista service packs and drivers.

as of right now vlite CANNOT slipstream service pack 2 for vista. nuhi has qiut development of it with no sign of him coming back

I hadn't heard that yet either. I assumed a SP2-capable version of vLite would be released.

nuhi disappeared few months back and put beneath his avatar this - ON PAUSE - nLite & vLite, from reading various posts from others i gather he got full time job and has some family obligations that are taking up his time. i am hoping he comes back but it doesn't look to promising at this point. those that used vlite on their installs will be screwed if he doesn't come back as service pack 2 will not install on vlited install of vista from what i have heard.
