Vista SP2 Availability

I?m running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. It is currently upgraded to SP1. When I run Windows Update through the Start Menu I don?t see SP2 as an available update.

I have already downloaded and installed every other available update (even the optional ones) with the exception of all of the Ultimate language packs.

Does anyone know how to remedy this issue? Thanks!

i have downloaded it, but have not installed it yet...is there really any benefit if sp1 installation is up to date?

I figured I could find a way to download it from the MS/Windows website. But, does that mean something isn't right with my system if the Windows Update program doesn't recognize that I need SP2?

When I ran the Windows Update program on my wife's laptop (also Vista 64-bit, but Home Premium, not Ultimate like mine) the SP2 download popped right up.

Has anyone else had the SP2 update not show up on their Windows Update program?

Dumb question, but just in case, have you hit the "refresh" button or whatever it's called to get it to look for new updates?

With one computer, it just took a day or two to show up in Windows Update. No idea why.

BUT, what do you use as a sound card? One of my computers had a SB Audigy 2 ZS in it. I learned that thanks to Creative's craptacular driver support, MS considered it incompatible with SP1 and refused the SP1 download on Windows Update. As soon as I found this issue from Googling, I pulled the Audigy 2 and switched to the integrated onboard sound. The next time Windows Update came up, SP1 was available for download.

Maybe it's a similar issue. Any obscure hardware? Drivers up to date?

Haven't missed my Audigy 2 at all! And Creative can go pound sand... it took those bastards over a year to release a compatible driver.

I have also noticed this. I have had several people say its because Windows Update
recognizes an incompatibility in something in your system, like a driver or software.
On a few occasions when I couldn't get it to show on computers I was repairing I tried the manual install and seem to remember a warning about some incompatible driver. It seemed to be a mistake since I didn't have anything using that driver, and installed SP2 and it worked fine.

btw IIRC their was a similiar problem with HP's and either sp1 or sp2 in XP due to the loading of the Intel ppd driver on Amd machines. In those cases the service pack didn't show either.

Yeah, I've updated the list. Many times over many weeks. SP2 has been available since late May, right?

Ok, well it is good that it seems I'm not alone with this issue. I don't use a sound card, I use the onboard audio. I don't think I have any "obscure" hardware... just what you see in my signature.

I'll check to verify that all of my drivers are up-to-date. I hadn't considered that possibility.

If that still fails I'll just download it from the MS Windows website.

Thanks!

The interesing thing is that Service Pack 2was finding a driver and device that was not in my computer.
If you download the SP2 and do the manual install, I would be interested in knowing whether you get some kind of warning message..
