From Windows Vista Blog

"....The good news is that this last year has been a great year of progress for Windows Vista in terms of improving application and device compatibility. For example, 98 out of the top-selling 100 applications have versions available for Windows Vista. And through the great work of our hardware partners, we now have 78,000 devices and components supported by Windows Update, up from about 34,000 in November 2006. As a result, we have licensed over 100 million copies of Windows Vista to date...."

NVM, I'll take this kind of news here any day. :)

Besides, isn't there something about DX 10.1 in Vista SP1?

EDIT:

Darnit, look at this part of the blog:

In mid-March, we will release Windows Vista SP1 ... to the download center on microsoft.com.

Why mid-March?
What about techincally-minded users who want to install it *now*?

pcslookout: Is that a direct download link? It looks like broken. (or maybe overloaded)

The site itself is overloaded, or Microsoft had it taken down.

Its not officially out due to driver issues, so you should read the details on what drivers are causing problems before you install.

What happens with the problematic drivers and the release date.
http://windowsvistablog.com/bl...windows-vista-sp1.aspx

I guess they could go ahead and release it but require people to read and agree to the driver problems, but knowing most users they won't read anything and will just download, install and complain when it screws up their pc.

Build number 1840 is the RTM I hear. Some folks are arguing that it's not the real RTM because there is no DX10.1 included in that build. (Duh)

This update was really really needed - I'm thinking by the time SP2 comes around I may be able to like Vista more than XP.

SP1 also includes changes focused on improving the performance of Windows Vista in areas that impact the customer experience the most. For instance, with SP1, copying or moving files around your PC, your home network or your corporate network should now be much faster -- up to 50% faster in some scenarios (according to our internal tests). In addition, on many kinds of hardware, resuming a Windows Vista-based PC from sleep is faster on Service Pack 1.
Holy crap did this need to be fixed. I can't wait to install it.

It works :) all you have to do is copy and paste that notepad stuff and get rid of the 3 spaces in each of the registry statements. Or if you have never installed a SP1 of vista all you need to do is copy and paste the reg add statement into Run and get rid of the space ad you are all set. it will ask you for a update first, then you will restart, than check for updates again and download another update. after that check for updates again and there is the beautiful SP1 created on 1/28/08.

:)

I don't doubt that it installs something. After all, I tried the SP1 Beta, RC0, and Refresh.

Your screenshot says "release candidate," so won't it be time-limited like the other RC's?
