That is crappy inquirer,
Discussed earlier already.
Games may be 5-10% slower than XP, but only older ones, newer games will be faster.
Also, that Aero thing crapping your performance doesn't make any sense, if I am not mistaken it was the 3D interface meant to make Vista better. In any case MS should have enough manpower to program the OS to switch automatically to optimal settings while gaming if that is a major issue.

I would say that if there is a performance slowdown it'd be thanks to the driver model, not having Aero-glass loaded.

well you can turn aero off. as long as you dont run the aero glass interface it doesnt even use the 3d card. and home basic doesnt even have aero glass.

I wish that microsoft would offer a no frills gaming OS that is optimized for just gaming. Or maybe a gaming mode where only the essentials are loaded (kernel, drivers, dlls, etc). I for one would love a command line interface instead of an overblown GUI for gaming.
They could offer it to people that have valid MS licenses for Vista or whatever is their flagship.
On the other hand, I wish Linux was a viable gaming platform.

From my own experiences with RC1 and RC2 64-bit, the performance difference is not noticeable. Aero Glass doesn't need a lot of 3d resources to run, and if you have a decent modern graphics card the performance hit is minimal to negligable. My games fps is pretty much identical than in XP and my 3dmark scores are also about the same.

Then why does every review site show different?
