Vista Sleep Problem

I love to hit the sleep button on my keyboard, but after I rebuilt my computer with brand new parts and Vista, the sleep button would work...occasionally. What I mean is that sometimes the computer goes into sleep the way I want to (with the processor, fans, lights all shut off). At other times the cpu, fans, everything keeps running and I can't awake the computer from it. I would have to push the reset button and face the message that I didn't shut down correctly. Anyone have an idea what's going on?
