I'm using RC1 x64, and it may have 1500 bugs, but on my new box, it's dam good!

Where should I start? Take a look at memory useage.

Just installed RC2 x64 (took about 25 minutes total)...seems quite a bit faster so far.

(Of course, I haven't really installed anything yet either...and probably part of the reason my 5728 was slow was that I upgraded to it from RC1 instead of doing a clean install like I just did with RC2....)

From what I have read, I thought MAC's never have any problems??? Imagine that.

Well of course it has problems, but i would like to point out this was installing Windows when it froze.


On a side note, the second time was a charm. Worked great. Even more surprized to find out Aero Glass works fine on this little tyke, and the system is very speedy as well. Time to play.

I'm sure there's probably no point in asking given that this has only been out for a few hours and given Creative's past track record - but has anyone gotten an Audigy1/2/4/X-Fi working in RC2 yet? Neither the latest XP64 drivers nor the latest Vista beta drivers on their site seem to work for me at all (and yes, I'm disabling the signed driver check at every boot).

What am I thinking....obviously it's too much to ask for the world's largest producer of sound cards to provide some sort of working drivers for an operating system due to be RTM within a month...

One nice thing about Microsoft, they have lots o bandwidth. I am capped on my 3Mbps line. Should have the x64 version down within 3 hours.

Installed RC2 x86 with a clean install as a dual boot with XP x64. The fastest install of Windows I've ever seen at 23 minutes. It seems to run fine and is snappier than rc1 or 5728. Just installed the ATi RC1 Catalysts which seem ok. Ran 3dmark 06 got a score of 4269 as opposed to XP x64 which scored 4383. All other devices installed fine with Vista finding working drivers.

DVD's play fine using the Windows Media Center. Installed Avast anti-virus again with no issues at all.

Overall RC2 is very polished and has come a long way since the clunky slow old Beta 2. If the security changes stackup and we can get some decent drivers for video cards etc then Vista has the makings of a good OS.

I let it download overnight using Microsofts download manager and it failed the integrity check so I start all over. I only get about 140KB/sec so it takes about 5 hours. Sure wish I had access to cable. Moved last year and had to convert from cable to Earthlink DSL. At least it beats dial up. I've downloaded 3 previous versions without any problems. Wonder what went wrong?

This statement worries me. Not so much the upgrade cause I would never "upgrade" an RTM on top of an RC. It's rather the part about not getting Updates. I'd like to use Vista on my main box at home until I can get a release version and I'd hate to go 3 - 4 months without complete updates. I have a copy of XP 64bit sitting in a box that I'd gladly pay to upgrade to Vista 64 when there are adequate drivers out there.

For some reason every time I try to burn the ISO it fails at 62%

Guess I'll just have to stick with RC1.

First, always, you have to check MD5 suim of download with given
32-Bit

Then MS advises to burn at 1X or 2X to insure good data transfer

Thanks for the tips. I eventually just switched from CDXPBurner to ImgBurn and it worked fine (at twice the speed)

RC2 is looking good so far! :thumbsup:

Probably, but I don't know for sure. I did an upgrade from RC1 to 5728, but I decided to create a new partition and do a clean install for RC2. My RC2 install seems a lot faster than even 5728 did, so unless they did a major performance overhaul in the space of 2-3 weeks, I'm assuming it's because I did a fresh install on an empty partition (along with the normal optimizations that would have been made since the last build). Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that while you can probably do an in-place upgrade, I'd tend to recommend against it. The RC1->5728 upgrade took over an hour on my computer, compared to RC2 which clean-installed in 25 minutes from start to fully installed (usable desktop).

Also, about my earlier post about Creative's drivers not working...I don't know what I did, but they seem to work now (at least as well as they did in RC1/5728 anyway). Still have to disable the driver integrity check at every boot though if you're on x64.

you better do full install. most of drivers won't work.

Ugh, I did a clean install and I think this is the buggiest build I've tried yet. It refuses to restart or shutdown, the screen just goes blank with no signal from the monitor. Also I've encountered my first blue screen ever using Vista. I think I'm going to go back to 5728. I had no problems with it at all.

What hardware is this on? After my limited experience so far (installed RC2 just over 12 hours ago and 8 of those hours I was sleeping ), it's much faster and less buggy than 5728 was for me. Even fooling around with Creative's shoddy beta drivers trying to get sound to work hasn't crashed the OS yet

Edit: I'm also using the x64 build, but I highly doubt the x86 build would have a lot of extra bugs; if anything I'd expect the reverse
