I never really jumped on a new OS before. Just got a quick question. Is the problems some ppl are having with Vista mostly driver related(different hardware)and not the OS being buggy? Or is it a combo of both?

Just wondering if I am needing to wait on Vista to be more updated before I buy or for manufactures to release better drivers for my hardware.
 
The most problems are drivers, software, and unrealistic expectations from users that do not do their homework before upgrading... Those that were around for the initial rollout of Windows 95, Windows XP have seen all this before. I have upgraded ( with a clean installation ) several machines and have had no issues at all. Of course I do my homework before hand. IMO the most problems I have seen are people with RAID Arrays and they don't know how to load the RAID Drivers during the installation process.

thx for the reply. I gave Vista a try on a buddies PC and have to say I like it. One more question he has a Gigabyte P965-DS3 and when he restarts his PC it shuts down and turns back on. In XP is just restarts like you would hit the reset button on the case. This normal?
 
My main problems have been software incompatibilities with 64bit Vista. I haven't run into any significant problems with 32bit Vista to speak of.

I've never seen XP do an "instant" turnover like that which leads me to believe that the install may have been borked. The shutdown in Vista is what XP should have been doing. Turn off and then turn on.
 
I'm not having any trouble with Vista except from buggy videocard drivers (the 7.1 for ATI were great but the current forceware for my 6800XT are buggy and slow) and some software incompatibilites but the OS itself is very stable.

I'm liking it a lot, the only thing I use XP now is for games and even so, its not like Vista runs games crappily, you just lose a few frames on non vista optimized games.
