Vista Problem with audio CDs?

I did a few searches and didn't see anything.

Anyone know of the problem in Vista where a drive won't read audio CDs? It will still read DVDs but no audio CDs, I have tried uninstalled the device, updating drivers... checked all the settings I could think of to no avail.

Google found a lot of similar problems, but I could find no solution, if anyone could help out it would be appreciated.
 
Have you tried to update the firmware on your optical drive? Some older optical drives may require a firmware update to work correctly under Vista.

Haven't tried that, but it is a pretty new laptop, maybe 6 months old at most.

The laptop may still have a older optical drive in it. OEM's are famous for mixing older and newer parts to save money.
