I'm thinking about it for my next build. The benefits may outweigh the extra cost, like being able to move my OS to new system.

Actually I am lucky that my co. pays for my MSDN Universal account, so I get all the OSs for "free". I have XP on one machine and Vista Ultimate x64 on another at work, both for software dev and testing. I much prefer XP as a dev platform, but Vista isn't too terrible. Again, even though they are all free to me, I develop on XP, test on Vista. Still, I think the retail prices of the Vista variations is just too much compared to the cost of a Linux distro or Mac OS X. Vista would take off if Microsoft started offering "family" licenses (3-5 licenses/keys with a single install CD) for a reasonable price. A lot of people I know have 2, 3, maybe even 4 or 5 systems in their homes now.

European anti-trust and foreign language versions aside...
Vista comes in 6 flavors:
Which one(s) would YOU do away with?
- 1. Vista Starter Edition - stripped down version of HB for Turd World countries - think demo.
2. Vista Home Basic Edition - think Windows XP Home.
3. Vista Home Premium Edition - functionally equivalent to Windows XP MCE, except Vista HP works!
4. Vista Business Edition - equivalent to XP Pro.
5. Vista Enterprise Edition - for big enterprises where data protection is paramount.
6. Vista Ultimate Edition - all Windows Vista features in one package.![]()
Yeah, but then folks would complain that Ultimate was "bloatware".Originally posted by: Nothinman
Actually I'd probably get rid of them all except for Ultimate, artificial limitations built into software just to make you pay for the next version up is extremely lame.Which one(s) would YOU do away with?
A lot of us felt this way when MS first leaked the Vista version list. It was always tough enough explaining the differences between XP Home and XP Pro.Originally posted by: Mem
