Vista - Power Options > Monitor WONT turn off?!?

I just installed Vista and everything is working fairly well so far except that I can't get my monitor to power off after being inactive for awhile. I was trying to change settings in Power Options so that after 5 minutes of inactivity my monitor would power off. No problem in XP, but the darn thing stays on all of the time in Vista. WTF?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
TIA!

You may need to install the monitor driver. I notived that after I installed Vista Windows Update found a specific driver for my Hanns G 19" LCD. You had to choose to install it as it was not part of the express update.

That was one thing I tried so far. I just confirmed that in the display settings it is now reflecting my LCD after the Windows Update. Thanks for the suggestion though! I will eventually figure this thing out...

I was having the same problem with my planar and the new non hid update fixed it however there still isn't a specific driver for my monitor. In the properties it just says generic pnp monitor.

What is the new non hid update? Was it a driver that showed up under Windows Update? If I remember correctly, Windows update found and installed a Dell 1907fp driver for my monitor.

Anybody else have any info on this? It would be greatly appreciated because this is the one thing in Vista that is driving me nuts!!!

I also have the same issue or a similar issue with my logitech MX1000. Screensaver doesn't come on. Monitor won't turn off. Computer refuses to go into sleep mode.

Someone also mentioned that you can fix this by disabling all Media Center services that are running. Unfortunately I actually use media center so I never bothered to try this.

Yeah, same here! Half of the reason I upgraded to vista was so that I could start messing with the built in Media Center functionality. It kind of surprises me that MS is taking so long to fix this... Seems to be bad press when the box for the MS Desktop 6000 v2 says "Vista Certified" and is also a MS product.

i dont know, to me having vista leave the screen on is a feature not a problem but i know its supposed to work. i just cannot stand when im watching tv and the screen goes blank, so the problem can work both ways. if anything if i want the screen off i just hit the button on the front of the screen.
