Vista network sharing

Well it seems like another dissapointment with Vista. First I had a trouble finding computers on my home network: when Vista finally found them and I was about to transfer files it took forever to calculate the file size, then the speed was about 50kbs and it went to 150kps. It is still slow and impossible to transfer anything concidering interned downloads can go up to 1mbs from the laptop. Didn't have any problems trasfering files when I had XP on that laptop. Anything can be done about that?
