Let me guess!

Um...

Vista x64 user - never had a problem, right? :D

I'm a satisfied x64 Home Premium user. Runs better than my XP Pro install.

The thing that is unfortunate about it is many of my friends who aren't so tech savy but want to sound like they are have resorted to Vista bashing since it's the "cool thing to do."

the driver signing is not even the issue..there are ways to get around it. (Hint: "atsiv.exe" for unsigned drivers)

I also got SP1 (RC) as well s all updates. I just made another thread.

The driver signing thing is just ONE factor....i am not going to list all my criticism points now. This OS is just crap from the inside out....in every aspect. Every time just using MAIL or some other f****g slow app is a joke. I will continue to tweak it down and get halfway to XP speeds.....or at least try it. Or somehow get DX10 on XP64.

The OP is gone, man...

He did a "fly-by", started this stupid thread, went to fix his hardware, re-installed Vista CORRECTLY this time, and now is laughing at everyone here, happy to have started a "riot". :p

Cykoth, can you hear me...? :D

See...? He is GONE ;)

lol, that was a linear thought pattern there.
as if it would matter, this is just a broken record of a baby crying...wahhhhh
everyone has OS problems now and then regardless of which one is used.
i cant even count how many linux problems i've had muchless windows and yes even amiga gave me fits before back in the day.
smart people figure out the problem or try to sort a solution, even some ignore it and work around it.
crybabies do nothing but complain but like others i'm sure even you can come up with yet another excuse.

whats funny still is searching for XP problems and seeing all the complaints.
the difference today is people making excuses without facts to justify complaints

honestly, vista 64 didn't even crash on me when I was still working out the kinks with my overclock and prime95 was throwing errors left and right

Heh!

That was a provocative operation actually! I'm a lateral thinker, not a linear thinker...

Judging by your evasive answer, I'm guessing Vista x86 gamer now... :)

I bet that your hardware is unstable, and you didn't bother reading about Vista installation issues with 4GB of RAM installed.

You know that you must install it with 2GB, download the patch, and only then put the remaining 2 GB of RAM in, correct...?

Have you previously used the 600 or 700 series chipset from NVidia...?

They are very "quirky", to say the least, and all the settings MUST be done manually, especially for the RAM voltage, frequency and timings.

And yes, Vista is more sensitive to hardware problems than XP, which would explain your "successful" XP install. But... are you sure that your XP is stable...?

Relax, take a deep breath, adjust your settings, and do it again...

This time, do it right... ;)

EDIT: And I hope you added your 2nd Video Card later, not right away, correct...?

Huh? When did this happen? I have installed Vista x64 on a few machines with 4GB installed at install time and didnt experience any issues.

You have to realize that it MIGHT affect installation, so, however rare, you have to be aware it exists.

You have 2 choices with the 4GB "bug".

1. Attempt to install Vista with >3GB of RAM, and if you experience the error, remove the excess Dimms.

2. Install it with 3GB of RAM or less and don't even worry about it. I did. :D

I like to point out Vista x86(32 bit) is also effected as much as Vista x64 with the 4GB problem, obviously Vista x64 users are more likely to have the problem due to more Vista x64 users with 4GB of ram then Vista x86 users, remember its down to the motherboard in question too ie see below.

SYMPTOMS
When you try to install Windows Vista, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
STOP 0x0000000A (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
? The computer uses more than 3 GB of RAM.
? The computer uses a storage system that is running the Storport miniport driver.
? The computer uses a controller that uses 32-bit direct memory access (DMA

More info here and update fixes for both Vista x86,x64 .

For the record I never had the 4GB problem ,but then I don't have the above Storport or controller that uses 32 bit direct memory access.
