Vista Installation Question

Here's my situation. The business department of my school gives out access to a whole bunch of software to its students. I have decided I'm going to move from XP 32 to Vista 64. My problem is that the cap here is at 600k, or approx 70~ kbps. This will take quite a while to download, and leave me with no internet and I have no way to lower the downloads priority and still be able to browse (sucks, yes I know.) However, I already have the serial key for my copy of Windows Vista Business x64.

My friend has a vista ultimate dvd. Would I be able install windows business off of that cd using my business serial? I assume not, but may as well check.

--edit-- Googled some people successfully doing this. Will Update.

Let me know as well, I have the SAME EXACT question haha.

I have a retail copy I bought of Windows Vista Ultimate for my gaming rig. My girlfriend (who doesn't care about computers) got access to discount pricing on academic keys / software as yourself since she's enrolled again, so I have a Vista Business Key sitting at my desk after having her purchase it for me. Send me the good word man :p

If you can find someone with a Lenovo T60, they shipped with a Microsoft DVD called "Windows Anytime Upgrade." It has all the good versions of Vista on it, but you have to provide your own key. There is one available on E-Bay (Buy it now) for about $6.

WAU

That tool should scratch both of your itches.

Thanks Corkyg.

I just bit the bullet and used my Vista 64 Retail CD to install with my retail Vista business key.

Basically it works just fine without a hitch on the clean install. It detected it was a Vista Business Key on installation and proceeded normally. Once windows was installed, I activated it and no problems, not even one hiccup. So I guess that's a "go" that retail Vista Ultimate lets you install any version of Vista as long as you have the appropriate key.
