vista installation problem

so, i put in the windows vista key and i get a window saying that it couldn't open the windows disk image. wtf?

i burned another disk thinking that the burn was the problem, but it wasn't... i got the same message.

anyone have this problem or know why i'm having this problem?

Did you run a checksum on the iso? If good, do you have at least 15GB of hard drive space for the Vista install?

What do you mean by putting in the key?

I ruined 4 or 5 DVD disc trying to get a decent ISO Burn copy.
My Nero will only slow to a 4x burn in ISO, none of my 64 bit attempts would give me an install that didn't end up as a BSOD,
so I finally did get a 32 bit copy that would work, but it was after 15 attempts at installing.

I had to re-format a Seagate 160GB, dump & re-partition a 40GB section each time.
I tried it as a new install
with both hard drives hooked up, as well as making it a primary by itself with the 'other' hard drive out of the quation.
(Unplugged & re-jumpered)

I ordered the disc copy of the 64 bit, so when that arrives I'll fight this windmill again.

Try to save your ISO copy to the desktop, burn from there to an ISO File using the SLOWEST POSSIBLE WRITE SPEED.
You can boot from DVD/CD . . . or even open CD/DVD-ROM, EXPLORE, & do the Auto-Run.
More trouble than I've had with their Betas previously.

So I shouldn't have given up on the 32 bit version after 4 attempts? Oh, I burned at the slowest Nero would let me, 2.4x.

Based on your checksum, you need to download the ISO again. Then, burn it to a DVD.

dling it again for the 3rd time... i dled it again before and the checksum was still screwed. i guess using leechget screws up the dl.

I used LeechGet and got a 410mb file. F@#$%$# LeechGet imho.

Boot or install?

I had issues for a while, but it turns out my particular system wouldn't install if you booted from the DVD. Starting the installation when I was in XP worked no problem...

I've tried booting and installing from XP. I've tried 3 different images, also tried mounting it with Daemon Tools.

Edit: I just tried a 32bit image and it's working fine. Is there a problem with the 64bit iso?

I finally got a valid installation of Vista to take - after 20 separate attempts.
One ( the 15th ) worked partialy, no side bar, refused to load ATI Video Drivers, was unstable & crashed to BSOD every 5 minutes . . so I killed it & started over . . again.

I have tried both the 32-Bit & the 64-Bit, and have tried every combination from Boot from CD, to Run from CD with starting in XP & load to destination of a separate HDD, including attempts to load while running in Safe Mode on XP Pro.

This is the glitchiest Beta load I have had to struggle with, and I thought that the 64-Bit Beta with minimal drivers was bad, but this is worse.

Anyway - the 32-Bit is running . . . after 6 downloads from the server to capture a valid ISO Image that could be burned to DVD, then throwing out 6 DVD discs that were compromised in their content - never got a valid 64-Bit to complete it's installation, only the 32-Bit finally completed & was stable enough for the driver updates to be accomplished, registration of the system, & installation of the Secutity Beta from CA (Computer Associates) - This has been a struggle since Saturday, and 4 days later I have something that runs well enough to begin system evaluation on.

If it's any consolidation, I did get a response back from the Microsoft Beta Analysis Team that my 'Crash Data Input' has let them resolve an issue that will be used as a fix in the next release of software - whatever the glitch was it's fix will be included in the RC-1 Release . . . Whoopee!
