Not sure about maturity, but it takes m$ the best part of forever to fix its software and always has, so I'll bet on roughly the same time.

As for adoption rates, probably much longer than XP since, it really doesn't do all that much that XP can't already. Enthusuiasts may adopt more quickly *IF* there is a large amount of Dx10 games and *IF* DX9 performance really does dramatically improve. Once again though, if M$ were to release DX10 for XP (assuming they could bring all the benefits to XP, and I fail to see why they couldn't different code model or not) how many enthusiasts would bother to upgrade?

"We started testing with the GeForce 7900 GTX but quickly switched over to the Radeon X1900 XT after all the crashing games revealed that Nvidia's Vista drivers weren't quite mature enough for live testing. Note that this isn't indicative of Nvidia's final Vista performance levels. The OS is still over a half year away from launch, which gives Nvidia plenty of time to polish up its drivers."

Different versions of Vista... That article was about Beta 2. The current version is Release Candidate 1, which is what this thread is about.

Do you have any other games such as FEAR, or BF2? I know that a 6800GT would crap it's pants in FEAR if you tried to stress it, but I'm only interested in the OS intervention if there is any.

You might want to consider the 66.33 Vista beta drivers on Nvidias site. My 3D Mark 05 score was 1655 with the Vista supplied drivers. Went to 2835 with the 66.33 drivers.

When I first upgraded to XP I was playing UT on my Radeon DDR. I was getting 70 FPS and with XP It dropped to 35, cut in half. But the game itself became smoother. It was amazingly smooth. With better drivers the FPS went back up to 70, but with no noticeable improvements in smoothness.

I don't know why, or if it will still hod true, but from that I learned that FPS surprisingly don't reflect actual playability. It may be possible that games at lower FPS may play smoother then the higher FPS in XP.

I don't know why, maybe some errors in FPS calculation,, but playability is more important then raw FPS.

Never were truer words spoken. This holds true regardless of what OS you may be using (or even what hardware platform). It's also the reason why hardocp benchmark the way they do.
