Vista forcing me to reactivate after 1 memory upgrade

Let's pray this hyper-sensitive activation crap costs Microsoft bigtime. I want to see them burn for this .. just the hassle of being de-activated, being forced to call Microsoft via India during certain hours, being put on hold, just to use what has already been purchased. Vista is a disaster in my book. It's Microsoft's PS3. Overpriced, overhyped, and unnecessary.

Bitching about Vista isn't going to solve anything... action is what counts. As long as Microsoft isn't losing any serious market share to Mac OS and Linux, they'll basically do whatever the hell they want in the name of combating piracy.

Exactly! Well start spreading the word. I, for one, have been warning everyone I meet away from Vista, and hopefully there is enough resistance to their ridiculously asinine activation garbage that a change happens in the future. One thing is certain :

The ONLY people hurt by their draconian measures will be joe blow everyday PC user, whose PC locks him out because he clicked on the wrong thing.

The HACKERS/PIRATES will ALWAYS get off scot-free, as they will always find/have the workarounds. This should be obvious to them, they are only screwing their paying customers out of a trouble-free product, they are not harming the pirates in the LEAST.

But I don't expect the corporate bozos to figure this out for another 10 years, if ever.

Hehe, at least we can hope the sheer arrogance and stupidity of Microsoft's activation scheme piss off enough regular customers to actually generate a backlash. They've had their 20 years in the sun, time to watch them implode.

Yikes, not good. I had to revalidate my installation of XP Home a few times because I had installed it too many times and this caused the online activation of it to fail. All I had to do was call a live rep in India and they gave me a new activation code...it was still a pain though.

Anyway, I bought a new PC in December with XP Pro on it so I qualify for a Vista upgrade for just shipping and handling charges ($12.94). However, the more I hear stuff like this the more I think I'll say with XP for now.

Yeh, that's what I've been hearing I just got my order validated last Friday but the website is saying no ship date yet. They said it's supposed to take 6-8 weeks but, like you said, I'll believe it when I see it

Lol no, I run a PC shop in a smallish town, do good business. People seem surprised that I don't automatically try to ram the newest crap down everyone's throat. My philosophy = simplicity and value are way better than needless complexity and cost for people who don't need it. Vista is almost 100% worthless for people at this stage. The problems with it actually make it LESS than worthless at this stage. Peoples time is worth more than buggy wannabe-mac BS teletubby bullshite.

I was doing some research on this issue and found that an update on Jan 30th (931573) was developed to fix the issue of having to reactivate when device driver changes are the problem. See the link below. Make sure you read all of the article because about half way into it, it addresses reactivation on systems that were previously activated.

Has anyone updated motherboard drivers to SATA and not been required to reactivate? I just bought another hard drive which is SATA. My version is windows ultimate corporate.
