Vista drops my network gateway IP address

This seems to happen after a browser hang up, though at least once it seems to have happened for no apparent reason. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a known fix?

I have a linksys router with 3 wired computers and 4 wireless.

How do I know it drops the gateway address? LOL, because I have to go into network properties and reset it. The field is blank. This has happened on 2 different Vista laptops but not the XP laptop.

Nope, not that MS white paper, I am not using DHCP. I set the IP addresses manually. The IP address remains unchanged as does the DNS addresses I set and the mask.

Could be a driver issue. My nforce 4 board often looses it's IP address out of the blue in Vista. Only happens in Vista too, not in XP or any other OS.
