vista doesnt see recovery partition/blue screen during xp dual boot

i tryed to do a vista/xp dual boot on someones hp pavilion laptop, which didnt work, while installing it would load the necessary files then blue screen, so i gave up. anyways, after i made the partition for the xp files the partition that has the recovery files is no longer showing and vista says its not there. but if u try to defrag or use any partition program, its there. how would i go about getting it working again.

even better if i could get some help with that blue screen problem so i can put xp on it and get paid for the job.

stop: 0x0000007b (0xf78d2524, 0xc0000034, etc, etc)

in one post it said to change the sata options in bios...there is none. either help would be greatly appreciated.
 
So your trying to get the dual boot system working again with XP/Vista using the old Vista which is still there?
 
yea, i'm adding xp so he can use a program thats not vista compatible. i found one solution i'm trying atm of putting (hopefully) the driver for the hard drive on a floppy and trying to install xp. if theres another way, just in case this doesnt work for me, that would be great
 
Well there a lot of information on setting up and fixing dual/boot setups but I will give you the basics for getting a XP/Vista dual boot to work. First you would install XP and it does not know how to setup a dual boot with Vista being the older OS. Then you would install Vista and it will get the dual boot working. So in your situation you should be halfway there and reinstalling Vista back to the Vista partition you should have it working. If not then there different repairs you can try.
 
i'm alrdy at the part of installing vista, DONE. i need to install xp on a partition i made but while installing specifically during the loading process, it blue screen when i says starting windows. i was told i need the drive for the sata drive because the bios has no option to configure the sata drive. i want to know if there's another way in case the driver isnt seen.
 
Well based on what I can understand from your post about Windows XP not seeing the SATA drive you need to hit F6 at the beginning of Windows XP install and have you SATA controller XP driver installed from a floppy so it can see your SATA drive. That said the dual/boot wont work unless you install or reinstall XP first then Vista to get a dual boot with the proper boot mbr.
