Vista Creative drivers

Ok i just installed vista beta 2 x64.. (after a couple of BSOD during setup) it is working great. But my sound blaster live does not work. I tried the NGO modifed drivers but still did not work. Any other drivers anyone know to download.

Creative site say they do not plan on developing vista drivers for this hardware 🙁 so now i guess if i want to upgrade to vista i am going to have to change my sound card.. BLAH!

I'm assuming you tried updating drivers from the MU site? I thought I was able to get a earlier build working with drivers directly off the site (just doing a driver update from the device manager); unfortunetly I dont have that sound card anymore otherwise I would try with this build.

The oldest Creative sound card, to be supported for Vista, appears to be the Audigy 1.

Tried WinXP x64 driver also does not work 🙁

I guess i will not be using vista beta as much as planed.

Can anyone convince me to buy a better sound card, I have the Live! 5.1 version.

Don't use the Vista Beta Drivers from creative, they don't work.

Download the Windows XP 64-bit Drivers instead. If they don't work after the first installation, reinstall them. They should work the 2nd time.

I've tried the Creative Vista drivers on Vista 64bit for my Audigy 2 and I couldn't get them working either. However, they seem to work perfectly for Vista 32bit. If you're running Vista 64bit try 32bit...it seems to be faster for me for some reason.

QFT!!! thanks for the tip

got the XP x64 drivers working perfectly in Vista x64

working in 5.1 channel mode, Audio Console works great

so far the only driver I'm lacking in Vista x64 is for Zboard, and the nVidia control panel (no VGA overclocking)

So creative releases drivers FOR the OS that dont work, but drivers for a different OS work? Why does this not suprise me, creative has THE worst driver support.

"the cobbler" is there a specfic version you used?

I used 2.08.0004

just as was suggested, I had to install them twice before they worked

lol, I think we all forgot the obvious solution. Or maybe not so obvious since it never used to work well in XP. For my Live! 5.1 card, simply clicking on windows update in the start menu and doing a few more clicks from there, the drivers are found and installed automatically. 🙂

so did you install it twice in a row with out restarting using the setup.exe?

nope, reboot > install 2nd time

unfortunately, this doesn't function well in x64 :/

I just can't get an Audigy 2 to work under x64. After installing the OS, the first and only thing I did was run the XP64 driver installation from Creative. It installed, rebooted, and displayed everything like the sound card was working from the Control Panels. There wasn't any sound though. I then tried running the same installation again. This time, no sound device was listed in the Control Panel at all. I've been unable to get back to what I had. I tried using WinRAR to extract the 'Driver' directory from the two different Creative drivers. It seemed odd that the Device Manager accepted the Vista Beta drivers. The XP64 drivers appeared to locked up the Device Manager. No matter what though, no sound... :/

I would deeply appreciate it if someone could post exactly what they did to get an Audigy 2 working in Vista x64. This is the first Vista build I've had and refuse to do anything with it until I get sound working.

I'm replying to my own post here. After some fiddling about, I got my card working with the XP64 drivers. I'm really not sure if this helped, but I updated the default installed SMBus drivers from Nvidia's Beta 2 driver pack. After this, I ran the driver utility that was packed within 'SBAX_WEBUP_LB_2_08_0004' at \Drivers\Setup.exe to remove all traces of what had been installed (used 'Delete all shared Creative audio driver files'). Vista popped up the device installation dialog after rebooting. Here, I pointed the installation to the Drivers\WDM directory and everything worked. 😎

I've the plain Live! version, but Vista x86 doesn't install it no matter what I tried. I read on Creative's website that the Live! doesn't support Vista (at least there's no planned development for it). Is this because the Live can't support Vista because of incompatible hardware or Creative geniuses are too lazy writing their drivers? It seems like they want to force our hands and buy a "better" and definitely more expensive one that supports Vista.

If anyone got their regular, plain Live to work, please let us know.

Might not help those running the x64 version, but I'm using a regular Live! 5.1 and x86 wouldn't work with the driver installers. I ended up going into device manager and selecting one of the ? icons in my sound devices and asking windows to scan for new hardware changes. Ended up pulling the driver from somewhere, since I have sound now via the Live 5.1 card. It's still buggy in the Media Center settings though.
