Vista: Can't Install Creative's Audigy drivers or on-board sound..

I got Vista today in the mail.. I went to creative's website for Audigy Drivers. I have the "Sound Blaster Audigy" (Nothing fancy, just a $30 sound card). I downloaded the 32-bit Vista Drivers from creatives website and it said:

It didn't work.

So then I looked up my mobo (ASRock 754/939 Combo) on-line- hoping for a sound card update, they did. BETA drives however. Anyways, they didn't work.

So I did a search for AC97 drivers (my onboard sound). Found the companys website, found their Vista version. Downloaded it. It installed and didn't give me an error.. however, the sound still didn't work. Another thing: Vista doesnt even recognize any sound devices inside the computer. On-board or otherwise..

What can I do?

Another thing: My motherboard: AS Rock, do not even have Vista (audio or otherwise) Drivers for their 754/939 combo motherboards.. or ANY of their motherboards.. I'll me damned if I have to spend 100+ for another motherboard PLUS another 30-200 for another sound card..

I would take a closer look @ your soundcard and find out what model it is exactly.
Is it possible the card you have is of the following?

copied from Creative support section
DO NOT install this driver for Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit, Sound Blaster Audigy LS, Sound Blaster Audigy SE, or Sound Blaster Audigy Value.

also keep in mind that it is a "beta" driver as well.
"THIS IS AN UNSUPPORTED BETA DRIVER. There is no technical support for this driver."

You called?

Set aside your Vista disc, format and install XP. When Vista SP1 comes out (and yes Microsoft is already working on it, indeed looking for beta testers) reinstall it. By that time hardware drivers should have caught up a bit.

I found the correct driver for my Audigy with little effort at the Creative website. Driver is not provided for the game port, but then who still uses them? Also EAX is not supported with this beta driver. I have the basic Audigy SE model. If someone would tell me how to paste or copy the link to this forum, I will gladly do so.

Are you disabling on-board when you go to Audigy and vice versa? If both are "on," you may get nothing. On my mobo that is a jumper. On some it is a BIOS/CMOS change.

Take a screenshot of the device manager. Also did you try installing the sound drivers in WinXP compatibility mode + run as an administrator? I have found that for most things that works. I was able to get the drivers for my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz to work that way.

Fixed it. Device Manager. Apparently the drivers were installed, but windows didn't like them. So having windows do the search for the audio drivers online and installing them apparently worked.

Odd. But it's weird that windows didn't pick up on any of the drivers I downloaded. Audigy or Onboard... But it works when windows does the search and installs them.. Its like telling you that it's running the show.. not the user.
