Perhaps I'm way behind the times, but I was given an article today about how Windows Vista currently cannot run SQL server. They are working on a service pack for SQL Server, but it's still in the alpha or beta testing and is a ways from certification.

This seems like a strange thing to miss over the last couple years. Anyone know more about this or what forcasters are predicting? Will this delay Vista?

They can't run the desktop client version of SQL Server... it can run the "server" part of it.

Yeah... basically, MS dropped the ball on this one. It's not going to "delay Vista" (which, if you didn't notice, is already available) -- but it may delay adoption of it by companies that require SQL Server.

I thought volume and corporate licensing was already shipped, but didn't know if that would affect the home versions. Thanks for the reply and clearing up which part of MS SQL the article was referring to.

Went back and found the link in my emails. The article was pointing to MS SQL Server in the bits I skimmed over. I'll take your word for it, but still this is crazy support is not in place. http://money.cnn.com/2006/12/14/magazin...microsoft_vista.biz2/index.htm?cnn=yes

In the article:

Microsoft has effectively just handed its chief rivals an early holiday present. (Before any more of you fire off an outraged e-mail informing me that Vista doesn't run SQL Server, go back and read the above paragraphs again: I'm talking about SQL Server 2005 Express, which is the desktop counterpart of SQL Server - not the server version.)

Running Express here (the version included in VS Pro). Yes, it warns of compatibility issues, but the basic stuff I do with it (read/write tables, nothing esoteric) works.

Thanks for the input.
